They even got together and presented me with the most perfect gift. It was overwhelming and brought tears to my eyes.
I have been out of work going on two months, so my friends came up with a way to help. Their generosity, thoughtfullness and caring ways will buy groceries or other items needed for the rest of the month. Just overwhelming and I am so Thankful...
So For The Girls In My Circle (including my Internet Friends)...this is for you...
And then I started to become a woman.
And then I found out that if you allow your heart to open up,
God would show you the best in many friends.
One friend is needed when you're going through things with your man.
Another friend is needed when you're going through things with your mom.
Another will sit beside you in the bleachers as you delight in your children and their activities.
Another when you want to shop, share, heal, hurt, joke, or just be.
One friend will say, "Let's cry together,"
Another , "Let's fight together,"
Another , "Let's walk away together."
One friend will meet your spiritual need,
Another your shoe fetish,
Another your love for movies,
Another will be with you in your season of confusion,
Another will be your clarifier,
Another the wind beneath your wings.
But whatever their assignment in your life,
On whatever the occasion,
On whatever the day,
Or wherever you need them to meet you with their gym shoes on and hair pulled back,
Or to hold you back from making a complete fool of yourself ..
Those are your best friends.
It may all be wrapped up in one woman,
But for many, it's wrapped up in several..
One from 7th grade,
One from high school,
Several from the college years,
a couple from old jobs,
On some days your mother,
On some days your neighbor,
On others, your sisters,
Maybe some days your Internet Friends
And on some days, your daughters.
So whether you've been my friend for 20 minutes or 20 years,
God has placed you in my life to make a difference...AND YOU HAVE !

That's touching. I think back to when I had one "best friend." At that time, we were both too young to have developed many more facets to our life than fashion. :)
As I got older into my teenage years I switched best friends more often as some friends were boy crazy and others began working after school a lot, and still others became school nerds or cheerleaders or involved with school while others were too partying or too homebody-ish...
As an adult woman, like your poem discusses, I realize I can STILL have all these people as my best friend, because they each accentuate something in me.
I believe it's about where we are on each path; for example, our social need path, our spiritual path, our spiritual growth path, our activity level path, our intellectual path....so forth.
Yes, indeed.
It's good to now know we aren't even *expected* to have just one best friend. :)

It's wonderful to have many great friends.
Like you said it depends on where we our in our path of life...
our social need path, our spiritual path, our spiritual growth path, our activity level path, our intellectual path...each person in our life plays a role in fullfilling those needs.
I have come across women who still believe in that 'one' friend behavior. I believe they are missing out...
