Why Am I Like This?

I realize something about myself and I am not sure why I am this way.

If my son leaves the water running at the sink, I ask him to turn it off. Not unusual, right? but when he doesn't do it right away, it really annoys me. Ok...I want to save some pennies by not wasting water, but I find that if I am near the sink and I leave the water running while I turn to do something, it doesn't bother me.

Tonight, I realized I was sitting at the computer in the office while the TV was on in the living room. No one was in the living room. The thing is, I have a TV in the computer room and it wasn't on.

If my son had left the TV on in a room when no one was watching it, it would have bothered me, but here I did the same thing...

I am the same way with lights. I'm always turning the lights off after my son. He is not in the habit of turning off the lights when he leaves a room. I've caught myself leaving a light on once in awhile and it doesn't bother me.

Why is it when I do something that otherwise would bother me if my son did it, I don't give it a second thought? until now...

Can anyone identify with this?

I am the same way. I think it's because we know we can control ourselves but we can't control others.

i think it has something to do with wanting to control others, specially that we are parents and we know that we have the authority to do so. :)

Hi Cooper,
You're the same way too huh? At least I'm not alone with this? It puzzles me. I never thought of it as a control issue. Not sure if I like that word...control...maybe this is something I have to work on.
Nice having you visiting...

Hi Irish,
You're saying the same as Cooper. A control issue...never occured to me to look at it that way.As a parent, yes we have the authority, haha, but looking at it as control, not sure if I'm comfortable with that.
Thanks for visiting and sharing. Yes, I'll change your link.

Hi,
I think thats how we in general behave when(I) do some mistakes I dont bother but if the same thing happend or done by my brothers or sisters ,I will shout or gave them long lecture over that..(My fault is not that big kind of attitude)...As far as your action concern two things involved one as parent you always care what your son is doing good or bad and you have every right to order him or instruct him..As far as you doing same act and not bothering that much ,reason behind this is same we dont realize our mistakes often or easily it hurt our ego and it require lot of practice and greatness to accept and realize our smallest fault....

Ajay...thanks for sharing your perspective. I will ponder your thoughts as to this behavior of mine.
I'm finding I'm not alone with this and maybe thru sharing comments, we can understand this behavior.
