Handling Emotions Under Stress
Have you ever wasted time wondering if you could have, should have reacted differently? If you should have said something else? I think we've all been there, done that.
When we can not handle emotions, it can lead to conflict, miscommunication, cloud the real issue, inhibit problem solving and maybe even threaten a relationship. Sometimes getting a grip on our own feelings and reactions to a situation is hard to do.
How Can We Handle Our Emotions?
Try to keep a cool head.
Talk to a friend or other person you trust who is not involved directly in the situation.
Take a deep breath and count to 10
Think ahead. Think about how your reaction may affect the situation
Put yourself in the other persons shoes. How will feel after hearing your reaction?
Be silent until you have had a chance to cool down and relax
Be aware and try to manage impulse feelings. Stay composed, positive, focus and think clearly
