The Passing of Common Sense
I am home from work today after having a bout with that stomach bug that has been going around. Going through some emails, I found this one that I wanted to share.
Interesting and sadly true. What do you think?
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who
has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was,
since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He
will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
Knowing when to come in out of the rain; Why the early bird gets the
worm; Life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend
more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults not children are
in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but
overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy
charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended
from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for
reprimanding an unruly pupil, only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the
job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly
children.
It declined even further when schools were required to get parental
consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a pupil; but could
not inform parents when a pupil became pregnant and wanted to have an
abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses;
and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a
burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to
realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in
her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by
his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son,
Reason.
He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;
I Know My Rights
I Want It Now
Someone Else Is To Blame
I'm A Victim
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone...
Do you remember him?

Wonderful post! I truly miss Common Sense...I was one of those teachers who got attacked for doing my job (aka, not letting kids get away with murder). I'm glad there's someone else out there who digs Common Sense!
Take care!
I love this one! Thanks for making us laugh ;)
This post is WONDERful! Yes, since old C.S. left this earth we seems to muckin it up. Funny, my dad always told my mom not to worry so much about me because I had common sense and I'd be just fine. Wish I felt that way about MY kids!
Rest In Peace. ;)
I am going to miss common sense so much. I think we need to revive him and bring him back. We need him disparately! Thanks for sharing this.
Love and Blessings,
AngelBaby
I have not been by to check on you and it was good to see your face show up in blog catalog. I know the whole not posting thing all too well ... if blogging were my only job. It's good to see you.

Hi Christina,
Thanks for visiting.Common sense is such a wonderful thing, but unfortunately some people just don't have it. I read this and loved it. By the way, I believe teachers do not get the credit they deserve.
Hello Rebecca,
Glad you enjoyed this post. Thanks for stopping by.
Hi Suzen,
Seems alot of people are 'muckin' it up. Don't you just shake your head sometimes and wonder..where's their common sense? Glad you inherited common sense!
Hello Wink B,
Thanks for visiting. Oh I hope common sense returns from the grave!
Hello Angelbaby!
Thank you for visiting. I'm with you. I hope he does return because we DO need him.
Eight Women Dream,
It was so good to have you drop by Catherine. Thanks so much. I truly hope all is well in your world. By the way, I LOVED your blog and the whole idea behind it.
Ahhh, posting has escaped me lately. I have never before let so many days go between postings. I am going away next week, so I hope that rejuvenates me.
Blessings~
Andrea
